The CFSC includes 8 hours of instruction and handling plus tests. Our courses begin Saturday mornings, doors open at 7:45 am for registration. The course will commence at 8:00 am sharp! The Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) was developed in partnership with the provinces and territories, national organizations with an ongoing interest in firearms safety, and many firearms and hunter education course instructors from across Canada.
The CFSC consists of both classroom instruction in correlation with the Student Handbook, as well as practical instruction with hands on use of non-restricted firearms. This course is also the pre-requisite for persons interested in obtaining the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course.
Topics covered in the CFSC include:
the evolution of firearms, major parts, types and actions;
basic firearms safety practices;
ammunition;
operating firearm actions;
safe handling and carry procedures;
firing techniques and procedures;
care of non-restricted firearms;
responsibilities of the firearms owner/user; and
safe storage, display, transportation and handling of non-restricted firearms.
Information and Course Costs
Students are required to provide valid government issued identification upon attendance.
Students are expected to arrive on time, and full attendance is mandatory for the successful completion of the course.
Students shall not bring any ammunition or firearms to the course - inert ammunition and training firearms will be provided by CFEO.
Stand alone Course fee: $210.00 (includes tests) Deposit of $100.00 required to hold seat
Student Handbook: $20.00(optional)
Both Canadian Firearms Safety Course & Restricted Firearms Safety Course Combined (Includes both tests & minimum 12 hours classroom instruction and handling): $380.00 ($200.00 deposit required to hold seat)
In accordance with the Firearms Act, a new firearms safety course focusing on restricted firearms (primarily handguns) was developed and implemented on February 1, 1999. The legislation stipulates that individuals wishing to acquire restricted firearms must take the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC). Our courses begin Sunday afternoon , doors open at 12:45 pm for registration. The course will commence at 1:00 pm sharp! Topics covered in the CRFSC include:
the evolution of firearms, major parts, types and actions;
basic firearms safety practices;
ammunition;
operating handgun actions;
firing techniques and procedures for handguns;
care of restricted firearms;
responsibilities of the firearms owner/user; and
safe storage, display, transportation and handling of restricted firearms.
